LSUHSC/New Orleans Public Schools Science Partnership
Welcome to the LSU Health Sciences Center/New Orleans Public Schools Science Partnership information site. General information is also available as a PowerPoint slide show (see side menu).
In July of 2002, the students in the School of Graduate Studies at LSUHSC in New Orleans initiated a community project to form a science partnership with New Orleans Public Elementary Schools. The purpose of the partnership is to assist in a nationwide
implementation of math and science educational reform set into motion by President
George W. Bush and the "No Child Left Behind" initiative. The LSUHSC graduate students adopted two Orleans parish public elementary schools, Lawrence Crocker and McDonough #7. Throughout the school year, LSUHSC graduate student volunteers paired with teachers to give various science demonstrations. As a
culminating event the graduate students hosted a field trip to LSUHSC for the 4th grade students and teachers from each school.
After Hurricane Katrina, the School of
Graduate Studies is continuing its Science Partnership with area public
schools.
